Fishing splits cleanly in two. Whether something bites, and how big it is, are the world's rolls. Whether you land it is entirely yours — nothing is rolled once the fight begins.
Casting and waiting
With a rod in hand, hold to charge and release to send the lure. While it sits in the water the world rolls once a second, and your fishing level raises the odds. The fish's weight is rolled the moment it bites — the roll is squared, so monsters are rare, and your level raises the top of what is possible rather than the floor.
The fight
A beat mark appears at your crosshair, its tempo set by the fish's weight — heavy fish are slower but pull harder and need more hauls. Click on the beat to haul it closer; clicking early or late still hauls, but costs extra vigour. The fish swims away the whole time, so a lost rhythm is a losing fight.
Landing
Drag the fight into the shallows until the fish is on land, then hold to reel it the rest of the way in. The catch lands in your pockets with its weight recorded — a butcher's block will turn it into filets in proportion to that weight, and a fire will turn the filets into a meal.
